In Challhuahuacho, Peru, families and schools had a clear goal: stronger learning outcomes for their children.In 11 Quechua-speaking communities, that meant building something that worked for the way those classrooms actually operate - rural, multigrade and rooted in local culture and language.Our Las Bambas team, working alongside Asociación Las Bambas and CARE Peru, built a program around that goal:• Small groups of no more than 15 students.• Specialist teachers and psychologists hired full-time.• Lessons structured around how rural, multigrade classrooms actually work.• Parents brought into the process through dedicated schools for families.• Culture, arts and sport woven in - because learning doesn't happen in isolation.The results, measured across the district:📚 Reading proficiency: 13% → 33% 🔢 Mathematics proficiency: 14% → 35% In 2025, the program was recognised by the National Centre of Strategic Planning (CEPLAN) as a Success Story: Towards Closing Gaps.That recognition matters. But what matters more is that it's now a reference model for public-private partnerships - showing how community-aligned investment can be integrated into public education systems and sustained beyond a single program cycle.This is what long-term social investment looks like at Las Bambas. During an official visit to China, DRC Minister of Mines, Louis Watum Kabamba, led a delegation to meet MMG's major shareholder, China Minmetals Corporation (CMC). The delegation was received by CMC Vice President Xu Jiqing, alongside MMG Chairman Cao Liang and representatives from the Kinsevere mine.Discussions covered CMC's global operations and MMG's international portfolio, with a focus on Kinsevere's operational performance, project development, mining technology, and social responsibility. Minister Watum commended CMC's long-term investment in the DRC, reaffirming the country's commitment to strengthening its partnership with Chinese investors. Both parties emphasised on the importance of strengthening collaboration to ensure stable operations and advance sustainable mining development and socio-economic growth in the DRC.---------------------Lors d’une visite officielle en Chine, le ministre des Mines de la République démocratique du Congo, Louis Watum Kabamba, a conduit une délégation auprès du principal actionnaire de MMG, China Minmetals Corporation (CMC).
